Several pilot projects are funded annually by the Emory Goizueta ADRC with support from the National Institute of Aging (NIA) and the Atlanta Clinical & Translational Science Institute (ACTSI). The grants awarded are focused on mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer’s disease or related neurodegenerative diseases. Appropriate areas of research for pilot studies range from basic and clinical investigations to education and caregiving research. Studies of early interventions, imaging & biomarkers and minority issues are encouraged, as well as applications from new investigators and established researchers seeking new directions. The Goizueta ADRC has a statistician available who can provide statistical support for researchers applying for pilot projects.

Award criteria include:

  • Novelty and importance of the proposed research
  • Likelihood of generating independent funding
  • Utilization of the Emory Goizueta ADRC core and/or ACTSI resources (e.g., subjects or clinical data from patient and control volunteers; postmortem brains, DNA, Studio, Clinical Interaction Network, Clinical Data Extraction Service, etc.)
